Day 7 - Chapter 5 - The Reformation - Continued

Audio:

Dr. Ravi Zacharias - Pascalian Wager

Journals:

Journals were not improved.

The appeal for the students to tell me all they knew about guilt were basically all the questions I asked with each getting a yes or no answer. Not hardly something we can learn from. We talked about it briefly at then end of the class and then I asked them to rewrite their mini-thesis on guilt for next week.

As far as covering all we had in mind to, we only covered 8 of the 16 questions and nothing else.

We will also re-listen to the Pascalian Wager.

Since we are going to enable these students to continue this class next year, I am not distressed we are currently stuck in Chapter 5 and seem be here for another couple weeks.

Questions Asked:

None, for a change, since there was no new material.

Discussions:

We discussed the first eight questions and answers. One and a half hours and that is all we covered.

As always, I looked at the question and attempted to answer in my own words. From there we would attempt some discussion. Frankly, this puts me on the spot and I seem to have a loss for words - or the right ones anyway. There was no follow up discussions.

After the third question we changed tactics. The students are now taking time to read out loud my answers. This works much better because much thought and time was taken to carefully craft a good answer. When I was attempting to avoid reading and using the long answer, what they got was a much longer and fuzzier answer.

A little bit of discussion was possible after having read my response. I attribute this to things being a little clearer so the students could compose an opinion rather than attempting to grasp the concepts only.

Assignments:

  1. Since the CD player was not present, and we are using up these audio sound bytes, I asked them to relisten to the Pascalian wager and respond to it this time in their journal.
  2. Re-write their mini thesis on guilt.

Plan for Next Week:

  1. Chapter 5, for sure this time.... Yeah. Right....

    1. Sound byte - Dr. Ravi Zacharias - Pascalian Wager
    2. Relook at this weeks questions.
    3. Cover Chapter 5 and any questions which pertain to Chapter 5
