Journal - Day 1 01/21/2003
Day 1 - Pre Chapter 1 - An Introduction
Journals:
-
Explained Journals were to be used in class and with all the material we cover.
-
Journals are not just for notes, but for them to react to what they read or hear.
-
Reaction includes not only noting something they agree with, but arguing about some point they do not agree with.
Class:
-
Listened to audio (Dr. Ravi Zacharias - Belief system comes to us 3 different ways). This was suppose to go with Chapter 1, but since we'll be covering that next week, we'll improvise.
-
Students had not read anything yet as class had not begun. Some were just now given the book for the first time.
Lecture:
-
Hopefully, last time. Since they had read nothing and were unprepared, the lecture was on Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle, meaning to cover the high lights. Our text book does not cover these important philosophers very well. I felt it was important that we cover a couple items.
-
We reviewed the glossary. Not from a standpoint of knowing it all, but from having heard of it so when we come across these terms in the text, we might say "Ah ha!". We alternated reading it so as to involve everyone.
