We don't purposely deny God or hide our belief, but sometimes this is exactly what happens. We want to do something we know we aren't suppose to do and we go ahead and do so anyway.
For example, have you ever been told by your parents to clean up your room and you went on outside to play anyway, without cleaning your room? This was not only disobedience, but you also were denying that your parents had sovereignty (this means they were BOSS) over your life. In the same way, when we disobey God's commands, we proclaim that WE are independent of God and He has no part of us. This is why SIN is such a terrible thing.

[Matthew 26
74 Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.]
You see, even Jesus' closest disciples SINNED against him by rejecting him. When we realize our sin, we need to repent and resolve to do better. Here, now, during this communion time, it is an excellent time to stop and consider how you have denied God this week. Be like Peter, who asked for forgiveness, and then went forward to serve the Lord. Acts 2: 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." |

Luke 22:31-34 31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." 33 But he replied, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." 34 Jesus answered, "I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me." |
