Communion Meditation for Young People

Luke 6:34-36       Butter Cream Gang - Accepting Others

A Butter CreamerThe "Butter Cream Gang" is a gang of youths who do good deeds.  When they meet in their club house, it is to share what good deeds they have been doing and who needs help.  This gang began some 80 years earlier when a group of youths used to churn butter for widows.  Churning butter and making lye soap is very hard work.  The town gave them this unique name, and each generation strives to maintain the tradition.

In one episode, a youth got caught up with a REAL GANG and soon learned all the characteristics of gang members;

How did the Butter Cream Gang react? They responded with kindness and love. When the youth threatened to take Scott's bike, Scott just made a gift of it with a smile and pleasing manner.

When the REAL GANG went into the general store to steal some treats, the shop owner (an ex-Butter Cream gang member) met them at the door with treats and tried to sit down and visit good naturedly with them.

When a Butter Cream member was beat up, he told the youth they were still special and they were not going to give up on them.

The nasty youth was invited to play and partake in all Butter Cream activities, always, with loving expectations.

You know, this youth never did become anything but nasty. Could you constantly work with someone unlikable without the expectation that they would change?

Luke 6:34-36
 34  And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even `sinners' lend to `sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full.  35  But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.  36  Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Let's practice being part of a special "Butter Cream Gang". Consider the most unreasonable person you know, and make them your special project. Show them love and consideration constantly, not because they deserve it, but because your Father in heaven shows you constant love and consideration, although you don't deserve it.
