Communion Meditation for Young People

Leviticus 24:8
The Covenant

Do you remember what a COVENANT is?  It is a sacred promise.  An agreement between two parties.

Your house is a contract between the banker and your parents.  If your parents do their part, you get to stay in your house.  It's a done deal.

Your parents may have a COVENANT with you in regards to your chores.  If you do your chores when you are supposed to, perhaps they have promised to take you somewhere or provide something for you.

God has made a COVENANT with you.  If you will love Him and follow His instruction book, the Bible, all will be right with you.  Over and over, the Bible tells us how the God and the Israelites kept renewing their promise.
Ark of the Covenant
Exodus 24:7    Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, "We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey."

One of the physical signs of what this COVENANT, bread was offered to as sacrifice to God. As we find in Leviticus 24:8,  "This bread is to be set out before the LORD regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant."

When you were baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you also entered into a COVENANT relationship with God.  We have become God's children just as surely as the Israelites were Abraham's children.  We share bread and drink together to remember the COVENANT we have with Jesus Christ, and thus with God.  We have been bought for a price and we are to follow God's commandments.

Today, while the bread and juice is being passed, let's pray to God to help you better serve Him always and not just when you are reminded.  Pray that God will use you today, this week, and this month to minister to others.
