Richard & Debbie Lee, Zimbabwe   Bicycle for Blessing Impala Blessings Impala is a young Zimbabwe girl whom Junior Church has taken to writing letters to. Through letters we understood Blessing was walking 12 kilometers to school every day. (I personally believe it to be 12 miles for the round trip, but that does not diminish from the story in the least.)

The children, upon hearing this, and with an innocent prod from Blessing in more than one of her letters, determined to buy her a bike. Now, after 6 months, they are ready to send off $150 towards that bike.

Junior Church shared Blessing Impala's need with Children's church and Children's church has offered to send $100 to Blessing Impala (through Richard Lee, our Missionary in Zimbabwe).

Now, during the 6 months the children have been saving for a bike, a bush fire burned the hut Blessing lived in with her grandma and aunt and what little they had was destroyed by fire. Now, it may be by now they have other needs greater than a bicycle. However, I am sure Richard Lee, and Blessing Aunt, who works for Richard, will have the wisdom to do the right thing.

IDES International Disaster Emergency Fund   Franklin Christian Church supports IDES. Like any other Emergency Fund, IDES responds to Emergencies and Disasters all over the world - PLUS.

Child in Crib What is the PLUS?

IDES only provides moneys to Missionaries. In this way, Missionaries find doors opened which would other wise be closed to them - even in some closed countries. Also, the long term effect after the disaster keeps doors open and opens even more doors.

So, why would anyone give to a secular charity?

Dave & Suzie Snyder, Kenya   Junior Church helps David Gichina with organo-phosphorus poisoningDavid Gichina (in his early 20's), had an abrupt change in mental status and was suddenly hearing voices telling him not to eat because someone was trying to poison him, etc. The family brought him to a Catholic mission hospital where they ruled out cerebral malaria and other potential physical causes of his illness. The hospital recommended David be transferred to a small mental health hospital not far from our new office. The Gichina family was without means to settle the $50 bill with the mission hospital let alone pay the deposit of $200 required for admission to the mental health facility.

They needed a miracle, and despite the fact that we had an office to move, I felt this was an important test of priorities for me. The office move could wait a day or two. I wasn't so sure that David could. I helped the family move David to the recommended hospital, and he was seen by a capable Kenyan psychiatrist. ... (from Dave Snyder)

The Junior Church children have heard about David Gichina and have responded. Everything they can collect in the month of July will be sent to David Gichina's family in Kenya so David can get the treatment he needs.

David has been diagnosed organo-phosphorus poisoning.
