Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings in Christ from the Dominican Republic. We're gearing up for a busy summer with 11 work teams coming from the United States, mainly to be working on the camp/conference center project in Salcedo. We've already started plastering the existing buildings and the goal is have them finished by the end of the summer and be able to sleep 200 people comfortably. The final goal will be accommodating 500-600 people in four dorms and a family center. We're thrilled with the way the Lord has provided for this huge project. We started with a banana field in 1994 and it certainly looks a lot different today.
FAME & Generator / Welder
Two or three big praises for this project recently. Gary Klein received an offering from FAME to buy a 8 hp generator/welder that has already been put to use welding the roof on the new storage shed at the camp. Gary has also made a proposal to FAME for funding for a medical/dental clinic to be built on the property. We have a group of dentists in Louisville that are gathering dental equipment for this project. It's conceivable that that clinic could be built this summer and operating by the sometime in the fall/winter of this year,Lord willing. Please pray for that.
Arroyo Hondo School
Many have asked what is going on with our court case and the property in Arroyo Hondo here in Santiago-we have another hearing on Wednesday the 27th, so please pray for that. Two of the main opponents in this situation have realized that they had been mislead and have recently come and asked for forgiveness-they are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. We're really encouraged by that and feel that the situation is just about over. The next task will be raising up the church there again and we're making plans for that. Please continue to pray for that situation. It's been a long year with many meetings and a lot of worry but the Lord has been faithful, as always!
Family News
Emily just finished her first year at Lincoln Christian College and did very well. She really enjoys the school and has a bunch of friends. Her grades were very good also! She'll be home on the 4th of June, Lord willing.
Laurie is finishing her sophomore year and looking forward to working in summer school and possibly being able to travel to Washington, DC for an international young people's conference. She went last week for an interview in Santo Domingo - sponsored by one of the newspapers here. We'll see what happens.
Suzanne is preparing for her master's classes from Azusa Pacific University this summer. She's also the On-Site coordinator, which means she's responsible for the housing and meals for the professors while they are here. These will be her last classes and when she finishes them she will have her thesis to do. She's really enjoyed her studies. They have made her even more efficient, if that is possible!!
Thank you all for your continued prayers. We've been able to replace most everything lost during the robbery in Feb. We've almost received enough for a new copier, which we should get in the next few weeks. The 26 passenger bus is all paid off!! Praise the Lord for that. We just got the air conditioning fixed so that makes for a more comfortable trip for the work teams.
Thanks again. Write a note when you can.
In Christ,
Rick York
