Dominican  Update  Newsletter  August  1988

Dear Friends in Christ,

Our last group, from Bettendorf, IA, is at the beach today so I wanted to take advantage of the time and write a short note to those of you who were here this summer or have ties to the camp project in Salcedo. We're amazed at the progress at the camp and it is so neat to see how the Lord works through so many people to see His will done. We have both dorms plastered and painted a nice shade of light green. The dining hall and kitchen have been plastered and painted. We pour sidewalks in several strategic places and makes walking much easier and cleaner when it rains. The backstop is about halfway up on the softball field and should be done when Gary gets back this week. We also have made more beds and now have 90 bunkbeds ready to use! We got a new washing machine for Ramona!!! What a blessing that is.

Snack Shop

The snackshop is under roof (concrete) and the roof is on the maintenance shed. The footing is almost done for the exterior portion of the next dorm-at least the digging part is done. After Family Camp this coming weekend we will continue working on the medical/dental clinic to try and get the block laid and the roof on the first floor. Our goal is to have that usable by January, Lord willing.

Continued Support

To those of you who were here this summer-a big "Thank You"! Your work and financial help is making this dream become a reality. Next summer is shaping up to be another busy one-we're going to be gone for a couple of weeks in early June but will be back by the 21st and will have groups up through Aug. 15 Let me know if you're interested in coming back and possible dates so I can confirm them.

Future & Current Projects

One big goal we have this year is to raise money to continue working on the next dorm, which will be a big two story building that will have 10-12 individual dorm rooms that will sleep 10-12 people in each room with their own bathroom and shower. We're estimating that building will cost between $125,000-150,000 US-which is a lot of money to raise. What we want to try and do is raise 1/2 in the next 6-8 months so that we can get the footing in, pour the floor, lay the block and get the roof on the first floor. $65,000-75,000 is a lot to raise in that short amount of time but 10 churches that would raise $6500-7500 for this project is not impossible. I think each of you can see the importance of this project and I would like to personally challenge you to help raise those funds in your church. I can't think of a better project-of course I am a little biased, I know!

Please consider this need and get back to me. We're really excited about this camp and the impact it's already having on so many lives and the great future it will have in the Lord's work in the Dominican Republic. Please continue to pray for us and this financial need.

May the Lord continue to bless you.

In Christ,

Rick York
