Juan Alberto Newsletter February 2001

THE RIVAS REVIEW

Greetings from the Dominican Republic! So much has happened since our last newsletter. We are settled in our apartment and are in full swing in our various ministries in the Dominican Republic.

Gary Klein examines a girl in the Clinic. November found Alberto holding two different campaigns in La Pina and El Naranjito. This involved preaching in two services in each town and door-to-door evangelism. One person came to accept Christ as his Savior as a result of these campaigns. Alberto returned to El Naranjito in December to do some teaching on Biblical leadership.

The Kleins returned to the Dominican early in December. Alberto has spent some of his time helping them to organize the clinic and move medical supplies to various locations for future clinics and distribution.

January 1-4 was the youth camp in Salcedo. More than 400 people attended the camp. Some campers slept outside in the cafeteria since there was no room left in the dorms. They had a roof over their heads but no walls for privacy. The camp is organized the same as CIY, and even some older people attend as campers.

The mission helped send two young people from churches in La Pina and Santiago to camp this year. We would love to be able to help even more in the future. Many would like to attend but simply cannot afford to go. This year the cost of youth camp was $18 per person. If you are interested in helping someone attend youth camp next year, please let us know or send a donation marked camper. Please pray for the growth of the camp, the various missionaries and preachers who make decisions concerning the camp, and the funds to continue constructing more dormitories.

drrivasspeak02.jpg Alberto has continued to preach at different churches on weekends. He has also been having Bible studies with some of his family. Please pray that they will seek to know God.

We thank you for your continued prayers and support. This is so important to our ministry here. God is providing many different opportunities for us to be His servants here. We join with Paul in his greeting to the Philippians, "I thank my God every time I remember you."

WORK TEAMS WANTED

You can take a Missions Trip to work in a Medicial Clinic like this one. Please let us know if you are interested in bringing a group down. There are various ministries in which groups can be involved. These include medical clinics (pictured here), construction, VBS or a combination of these ministries.

ABIGAIL'S ANTICS

Abigail is 1 year old, walking, and into everything. I am still amazed by the miracle God created when He made children. Abigail continues to grow and change at amazing speed. She is now walking and into everything. Her favorite places include the bathroom (playing in the toilet) and the kitchen where she throws all the tupperware on the floor so she can climb into the cupboard. She can actually stand inside at this point because there are no shelves.
