The work of the Christian Dominican Medical mission here is so very diversified that we can certainly offer you a wide variety of ministry options to be involved in here:
We are currently offering free medical clinics in villages all over the country every two weeks during whith we offer free Medical, Dental, and Surgical Care as we have the Care providers, Medicines and supplies needed to offer such care... these are evangelistic Clinics and include a program of health teaching, Preaching, Christian Music, Bible studies, and Children's programs... these clinics will be projected into the coming year soon and we can work around those dates if you are interested in working with us in the offering of one of these clinics. Smaller groups of 5-10 are best for these clinics depending on how you want to be involved in these clinics, and what your team has to offer to the overall Clinic Program.
We are currently in the process of building two church buildings and we are in desperate need of construction teams to accomplish their completion. We certainly need funds to be raised to buy the supplies that these teams would need for their time here in order to successfully keep the teams busy during their trip. Teams of 10-20 are good for these construction groups.
We have a need to offer VBS's at our 56 churches here and this could involve as many people as you might be able to get involved with Mimes, Drama, Music, Bible teaching, Games and the like.
We are in the process of buying property for the "TIMOTHY PROJECT" which we plan to build a Christian College on, a Medical Clinic Building, and a Vocational Training Center along with all of the associated facilities to successfully operate such a campus that is being designed to train 50 students a year from Spanish speaking countries all over the world to learn a vocational skill, and the needed Bible training to return to their respective country/village to "TENT-MAKE" while they begin to establish new Churches for the Lord. This is a huge project that will take 5-10 years to build completely and we hope to get started as soon as the property is purchased and we want to open the college and training center with students as soon as possible with temporary structures if needed so that we can begin to prepare young men that are interested in preaching here so that they can soon be "sent-out" into the field. This project will need as many workers and funds as we can draw here to build and start this Christian College that we are calling the "Christian Service Center Caribe".
We currently have all over our yard about 35 sets of playground equipment that were donated by one of our recent visitors after he saw how little the children here had to do that was fun in their villages... we have placed several of these play-sets in several of our churches and have come to the realization that we need to build a fence around these sets at the time of installation so that access to them can be managed in such a way as to protect the children from hurting each other as they play... these sets are so popular in each place that they have been built that the kids swarm them and beat each other up for a spot on a swing or slide to play. We have a serious need for several teams to come real soon to accomplish this task of installing these play sets before they get rusty from laying around stacked-up in the yard. The installation locations are all over the island and this is a big job to get them out, set-up, and fenced-in. Teams of 5-7 could best accomplish this task...each set would probably take several days as you would need to pour cement in each of the post-holes for the fencing.
We also need teams of 2-6 to pack medicine for clinics and to organize the pharmacy.
We also offer Bible training Seminars to groups of our preachers and church leaders here and we need help planning and implementing these training sessions on such topics as Church development, preaching, Counselling, new church planting, Church management, Leadership Development, etc. this could be only one person or many at a time coming to help with this planning and teaching.
We have begun to offer several other interesting "High Adventure Activities" to teams that come to do mission work with us... we offer Rock-climbing/ Repelling, Mountain Hiking, Scuba Diving/ Snorkeling, Caving (Vertical and Horizontal), and Deep Sea Fishing as well as some other stuff that we are working on offering this is in conjunction with local professionals, Young Life, and Youth with a Mission. These activities are being offered as a reward for the mission work being done and to make these mission visits more appealing to young people to get them interested in cross-cultural mission work here in the Dominican Republic... A very exciting island with a very diverse ecosystem available to explore.
I hope that this has given you some idea of how much we need your visit to work with us and what ministry opportunities there to chose from while coming to work with the CDMM.
Once again thank you for your interest and desire to serve Him with your lives in a Short-term mission along side the CDMM team!
