Savannah's learning page for kids.

How to speak Australian, and a little history lesson!

My dad said to tell you American kids that you all could call us Aussie’s. Also he said that it would be allright to call us your mates as well.

My dad also says that right now it is hot over where you are, but right here it is cold. Dad told me that when he was a little tyke, ( which means a little boy), he had many games he played, like cricket. This is funny sport where you throw a ball at a person and they have to hit it with a bat, not a flying one either.

My mummy said that some of the older kids and Tom would know what cricket was, so you will have to ask Tom to teach you how to play.

Did you know that God does have a sense of humour, because he created what is called a platypus, and it is only found in Australia. God also created that thing that jumps around and looks like a big jumping rat, you know the kangaroo. Or as dad calls it a roo. You know what, I really found it hard trying to pronounce that platypus word, how about you?

My Grandad told me a story the other day about how Australia came to be the nation it is today. He said that there were these blokes, that stole some bread, to feed their family, in a place called England. Grandad also said that they sent these convicts on ships to Australia, to work out their sentence. So Australia was founded and run by the English, when it first began.

By the way did I tell you the joke that my dad told? He asked me what happens when you cross a kangaroo with an elephant? You get whopping great big holes all over Australia.

My mummy said that you all are bonzer people, and that hopefully we all will be able to see you sometime in the future. I said to mummy that would be crackers. That word crackers means really cool, or ridgy didge.

By the way, I just wanted to let you all know that I am only one. I am off now to watch the Wiggles. Also I might have some milo, and a vegemite sanger. Milo is a milk chocalate drink, and some of you know what vegemite is.

Have a good weekend, and don’t forget the aeroguard. Aeroguard is what people use when they want to stop the mossies from biting. Mossies are what you would call a mosquito. Well so my mummy says anyway. Well as I said before I have choof off ( which means that I have to go), because one of my favorite shows are coming up.

God bless,
Savannah,
your little Aussie mate.
