Dear brothers & sisters in Christ, we thank God for your continued prayers and support.
In the first week of August Sharon, Savannah, and I went to the world convention of the churches of Christ, which was held in Brisbane, Australia.
We heard great speakers, such as Sam Stone, and a fella by the name of Leonard Sweet. These men gave some inspiring sermons. We were also challenged by Leroy Lawson’s workshop titled, "The church of the twenty-first century."
Sharon and I needed to go to this convention, because we all need to be fed Spiritually. So we indeed, were fed. I was particularly challenged by something Leonard Sweet said. He said that it is time the church began to PLEASE GOD, and not itself.
You know when we pray, sometimes we pray, please God can you do this or that, but his point was that if we choose to please God, all things we pray for will be in His will.
Please could you pray for the following people that we have been ministering to. Mark and his family, Ron, David, Kristy, Julie, Lynn, Neil, Sarah, Terresa and Terri. Please also pray for a couple who have come out of terrible circumstances, of taking drugs. Their names are Natalie & Rudi. Rudi served a eight year term in jail. They certainly need your prayer.
Also on August the 27th I have the opportunity to deliver the message at the Banana Festival, here in town. This will be open to the community, thus a opportunity to reach people. What I would like for you to pray for here is that those present at this will want to know more about Christ and seek out a home group or church. We will be following up those who make decisions that night.
On a personal note would you all please pray for Sharon, Savannah and my health. We are still getting used to the place here and that means getting used to the climate and the usual flu and so on that comes with it.
The contagious Christian training sessions are going well. Please also pray that those who attend this training time will use what they have learned.
Just this past Sunday I heard about several people who are close to making their decisions. Please pray for Betty, who is over the age of 65 and who is searching. Betty grew up in the Roman Catholic church, and because of this is still trying to understand where she stands in her belief. Please pray that we will have wisdom to help her through her many questions. Please continue to pray.
God bless, yours in Christ,
Philip.
Greetings to you all once again. Boy, has the time been flying by. Savannah has passed her first birthday and is walking [or trying to run everywhere]. When people told me "wait till she starts walking then the fun begins" they were’nt joking, she is into everything and seems about a foot taller, due to her being able to reach more things.
I started a women’s group at the church with 15 women, which was really exciting. We are about to have our second meeting on Friday night, we will be finding out from a social worker about the needs of the community. I was really pleased that the ladies wanted to find out the needs of the community and how we could help. I would ask you to pray that the enthusiasm continues with the ladies and that we can reach out to the community in some way, and that our outreach will be fruitful.
We had a wonderful time at the world convention in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago.It was so nice to have a week of renewal. We were so pleased that we were able to catch up with Dean and Judy Davis from Johnson Bible College, who arranged a JBC missionary gettogether. Amazing what a small world it is, we met the father of a Polish student we got to know while at Johnson. God is good! This time made us a little homesick for our old lives at Johnson.
Next month we are having our family camp for the church. We are excited about this time to share with the people and get to know them on a more personal level.
Well that’s all for me for this month. I’d like to thank you all for your prayers and support of us.
May God bless you,
Sharon.
My daddy said that someone told him that you liked this page so I wanted to continue it.
The other day dad said that I was whinging (complaining) too much about what I was eating, especially the pumpkin scones (pumpkin bisckuit) mum had made.
Mum said that I was born in Knoxville Tennessee, and that I am an American citizen as well as an Australian citizen, so does that make me an Aussiecan? I know that sounds a little corny, but that’s okay I am only one.
My dad says that when you want to capture someone’s attention when walking in the bush all you have to do is shout out COOEEE, AND PEOPLE WILL COOEEE BACK. Why don’t you try that in Sunday school. My dad said to tell you if you are a big kid you can try this too.
Did you know that in Australia there is only about 18.5 million people. Did you also know that Australia is nearly as big as America.
My mum says that I am really becoming a hand full because I have started to walk everywhere.
Do you know what a bloke is? It is another name for a man.
Do you know what a mate is? That is what we call a friend. Will you all be my mates?
My daddy said that I have to go to have my arvo (afternoon) sleep now, so I better choof off, have a bonzer day, may Jesus be the light in you,
Savannah.
