Culture

Murwillumbah is a small town of about 7,000 people situated about 15 miles in from the coast and about 35 miles north of the most easterly point in Australia, Byron Bay. That makes us about 600 miles north of Sydney. Our climate here is Sub Tropical with between 60 to 100 inches of rainfall per year, snow is nonexistent and only about half a dozen frosts per year. We are mainly an agricultural community growing bananas, sugar cane, avocados, small crops such as tomatoes and sweet potatoes along with dairy and beef cattle. Murwillumbah also has a growing tourism economy as we are only 2 hours drive from Brisbane and are surrounded by World Heritage listed National Parks. If anyone is looking for the bright lights and night clubs then we are only 20 minutes away from the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise.

One cult in the area with a lot of followers is the SaiBaba. They believe that man is divine, and that all roads lead to God.

There is a hemp festival (marijuana festival) for those who live the alternate culture (hippie). It is normally well attended.

Initiatives

Philip Eagling started a training session focusing on Christian witness on June 1, 2000 using the "Becoming a Contagious Christian", training series.

Sharon Eagling started a women's fellowship group, so that we can encourage each other, and have it as an evangelistic outreach.

Partnership

Yes! I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to read and know the precious living Word of God. I would like to partner with Phil & Sharon with their daughter Savannah in bringing God's Word to life for Bibleless peoples...
